Good fit for

This headphone suits audiophiles who prioritize sound clarity and technical performance. If you listen to high-resolution files, the LDAC and aptX Lossless codecs deliver detailed audio. The planar magnetic drivers provide fast response and uniform driving force. It also fits travelers who need long battery life and a compact foldable design. Users who value comfort during long sessions will appreciate the lambskin earpads. The dual-mic setup is useful for those who take calls while listening.

Who can skip it

You should look elsewhere if you prefer dynamic driver sound signatures. This model uses planar magnetic technology, which has a distinct character. If you need active noise cancellation, this data does not list that feature. The closed-back design isolates sound but may feel warm. If you want a lighter weight, this model weighs 12.2 ounces. Those seeking simple plug-and-play without app configuration might find the ConneX app unnecessary. It is not for users who need wired-only simplicity without Bluetooth.

Verdict

The Edifier STAX Spirit S5 delivers high-fidelity wireless audio with impressive battery life. It is a strong choice for listeners who value technical sound quality and comfort.

Key specs explained for the S5

Planar Magnetic Driver with EqualMass diaphragm

This driver type uses a thin diaphragm suspended in a magnetic field. The EqualMass structure ensures uniform force across the surface. You get low distortion and fast response times. Audiophiles who want accurate sound reproduction will benefit most. Compare this to dynamic drivers, which may have more distortion at high volumes.

Bluetooth 5.4 with Snapdragon Sound

Bluetooth 5.4 provides a stable, fast connection with lower power consumption. Snapdragon Sound support includes aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless codecs. You experience fewer dropouts and higher quality audio wirelessly. This setup is ideal for listeners with Android devices. It offers better performance than older Bluetooth versions like 5.0.

Up to 80 hours of playback

The battery lasts for an exceptionally long time on a single charge. You can listen for days without needing to plug in the headphones. A quick 10-minute charge gives you 11 hours of use. This is excellent for travelers or long listening sessions. Most standard headphones offer only 20 to 30 hours of battery life.

aptX Adaptive with 89 ms latency

This codec adjusts audio quality based on your connection stability. It maintains high resolution while keeping latency very low. You can watch videos or play games without noticeable audio delay. The 89 ms end-to-end delay is fast enough for most media. Compare this to standard Bluetooth, which often has higher, distracting lag.

12.2 ounces weight

This weight indicates a solid build, likely due to the planar drivers. You may feel the heft during extended wear sessions. The lambskin earpads and adjustable headband help distribute this weight. If you prefer ultra-lightweight plastic headphones, this might feel substantial. It is heavier than many standard wireless models but offers durability.

Design and Build Overview

According to the listing, the Edifier STAX Spirit S5 Planar Magnetic Headphones weigh 12.2 ounces. This weight is distributed across a foldable structure that includes an adjustable headband. The earpads are made of genuine lambskin. This material choice suggests a focus on long-term comfort during extended listening sessions. The closed-back design helps isolate you from external noise, creating a private audio environment.

The finish is listed as Spaceblack. This color option is available alongside the foldable frame, which allows the headphones to fit into the included carry case. This layout prioritizes portability for travel. You can carry them easily without taking up excessive space in your bag. The ergonomic design aims to reduce pressure points during use.

Controls are managed through the Edifier ConneX App. This app offers personalized EQ settings and cushion adjustments. While the physical controls are not detailed in the provided data, the software interface allows you to tailor the sound profile. The Bluetooth 5.4 connection ensures stable transmission. You can connect to two devices simultaneously. This feature supports seamless switching between sources. The USB-C and AUX inputs provide wired alternatives for stable connections.

Setup and Everyday Use

Setting up the Edifier STAX Spirit S5 begins with pairing. The listing confirms Bluetooth 5.4 support, which ensures stable transmission. You can connect to two devices simultaneously. Android users benefit from Google Fast Pair for quick connection. The headphone also includes USB-C and AUX cables for wired use. This flexibility lets you switch between wireless convenience and direct connection without issue.

Daily audio performance relies on the Qualcomm QCC5181 chipset. It supports LDAC, LHDC, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, and aptX Lossless. These codecs deliver Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless. You get high detail and clarity when streaming compatible files. The aptX Adaptive codec also keeps latency low at 89 ms end-to-end. This makes the S5 suitable for video watching without noticeable sync issues.

Calls use dual microphones with Qualcomm cVc technology. The closed-back design helps isolate your voice. Battery life is listed at 80 hours. A ten-minute charge provides 11 hours of playback. This rapid charge option is useful for quick top-ups. Comfort features include adjustable headbands and genuine lambskin earpads. The foldable structure and included carry case aid portability. You can manage EQ settings via the Edifier ConneX app. The app offers preset modes or custom tuning. This setup process ensures you can tailor the sound to your preference right from the start.

Before You Buy The S5

Owning the Edifier STAX Spirit S5 requires a compatible source to unlock its full potential. The listing highlights Snapdragon Sound and aptX Lossless support, which means you need a phone or laptop that explicitly supports these codecs to hear the advertised detail. If your device lacks this, you will fall back to standard Bluetooth audio. The included Edifier ConneX app allows you to adjust EQ settings, so you must download it to personalize the sound profile for your ears. Upkeep involves storing the headphones in the provided carry case to protect the lambskin earpads from dust and damage. While the 80-hour battery life is impressive, you should still keep the USB-C cable handy for those rare moments when power runs low. This model sits firmly in the audiophile category. It differs from standard dynamic driver headphones by prioritizing speed and low distortion. You should compare it against other planar magnetic options if you value transparency over bass weight. The S5 is best for listeners who prioritize accuracy and are willing to manage codec compatibility for the best sound quality.
