- 40mm aluminum-magnesium speaker drivers made in France
- Battery life of over 30 hours in Bluetooth and ANC mode
- Aluminum mechanical construction with magnesium yoke
- 3.5mm jack and USB-C outlets for limitless connectivity
- Backlit logo with fast charging support
Good fit for
You should consider these if you prioritize sound detail and build quality. The French-made drivers deliver pure sound with impact. The 30-hour battery life suits long commutes or travel. The inclusion of both a 3.5mm jack and USB-C allows you to connect to various devices without relying solely on Bluetooth. If you want replaceable earpads and a lightweight magnesium yoke, these fit your needs. They are ideal for listeners who want high-fidelity audio without sacrificing wireless convenience.
Who can skip it
You might want to look elsewhere if you need a compact, foldable design. These headphones are large, measuring 9.45 inches in length. They weigh 12.3 ounces, which is heavier than some travel-focused options. If you prefer earbuds or on-ear models for portability, the over-ear form factor may be cumbersome. Additionally, if you do not value wired connectivity via the 3.5mm jack, the extensive driver specs may not justify the bulk for your daily use.
Verdict
The Focal Bathys offers high-fidelity audio and long battery life in a durable aluminum and magnesium build. It suits audiophiles who want wireless convenience without compromising on sound quality or wired options.
Key specs explained
40mm Aluminum-Magnesium drivers
This driver size and material combination aims for detailed, pure sound with impact. The aluminum-magnesium mix is lightweight yet rigid, reducing distortion. You get accurate audio reproduction without the coloration of cheaper plastics. This spec matters if you listen to complex music or need clarity in dialogue. Compare this to standard plastic drivers that may sound muddy. The French manufacturing adds a layer of quality control to the acoustic performance.
Over 30 hours battery life
This figure applies when using Bluetooth and active noise cancelling simultaneously. You get extended listening sessions without frequent recharging. This is useful for long commutes or travel days where outlets are scarce. It allows you to use the headphones for multiple days before needing the charger. When shopping, compare this against competitors that may offer less runtime with ANC on. It ensures the wireless feature does not become a daily burden.
12.3 ounces weight
This is the total weight of the large, over-ear unit. It includes the magnesium yoke for lightness and the leather headband. You experience a balanced feel on your head without excessive pressure. The weight is distributed to reduce fatigue during long sessions. Compare this to heavier studio headphones that clamp tightly. The design prioritizes comfort for all-day wear while maintaining structural integrity through the metal frame components.
Active noise cancelling and transparency mode
These modes let you control your audio environment. ANC blocks external noise for immersion, while transparency lets you hear surroundings. You can switch based on your setting, like a plane or office. This versatility is key for travelers and commuters. Compare this to single-mode headphones that only isolate or only pass sound. The two optimized ANC modes suggest tailored processing for different noise profiles, enhancing focus or safety as needed.
Design and build specs
The Focal Bathys Wireless ANC Headphones feature a refined real leather and microfiber headband. According to the listing, this combination is designed to be incomparably soft and comfortable. The earpads provide insulation and comfort for any head shape. They are also easily replaceable, which extends the usable life of the unit. This material choice suggests a focus on long-wearing comfort rather than rugged outdoor durability.

A backlit logo lights up on the device. This aesthetic detail adds a subtle visual cue without altering the functional layout. The physical design prioritizes a premium feel and structural integrity. You get a pair of headphones that balances lightweight magnesium components with durable aluminum frames. The large earcups and soft materials indicate these are intended for seated listening or travel, rather than high-impact physical activity.
