Key specs explained
Weight: 8.92 ounces
This weight translates to approximately 253 grams, making the headphones lightweight for extended wear. You will feel less pressure on your head and ears during long commutes or work sessions. This low mass helps prevent fatigue, allowing you to focus on audio rather than physical discomfort. Compare this to heavier over-ear models that may cause strain after a few hours of continuous use.
Battery life: 27 hours
You get up to 27 hours of playback on a single charge. This duration covers multiple days of typical use without needing to plug in. If you travel frequently or work long shifts, this capacity reduces the frequency of charging. It ensures you have power for round-trip flights or full workweeks. Check this against competitors offering shorter runtimes for similar usage patterns.
Quick charging: 3 minutes for 1 hour
A short three-minute charge provides one hour of playback. This feature is useful when you forget to charge overnight or need a quick boost before a meeting. It minimizes downtime when your battery is critically low. You do not need to wait for a full cycle to get usable time. Compare this speed to models that require longer charging periods for minimal playback.
Connection: Wireless with Multipoint
These headphones connect via Bluetooth and support multipoint pairing. You can link two devices simultaneously and switch audio automatically when a call arrives or media starts. This setup is ideal for users who alternate between a laptop and a smartphone. It eliminates the need to manually disconnect and reconnect. Look for this feature if you manage multiple devices daily.
LDAC support
LDAC transmits about three times more data than standard Bluetooth audio. This allows for high-resolution wireless sound that approaches wired quality. You benefit from richer detail and clarity in music and movies. This spec is crucial if you listen to high-bitrate files. Compare this to standard Bluetooth codecs that compress audio more heavily, potentially losing fidelity.
Design and build details
The Sony WH-1000XM4C in Lavender features a foldable design that prioritizes portability. According to the listing, the headphones weigh approximately 253 grams, or 8.92 ounces. This low mass helps reduce pressure on your head and ears during extended listening sessions. The lightweight construction is intended to prevent fatigue, making them suitable for long commutes or all-day work calls.
The physical dimensions are listed as 9 inches in height, 8 inches in length, and 3 inches in width. These measurements indicate a compact form factor when folded. The included carrying case further supports travel, allowing you to pack the headphones securely in bags or backpacks. The foldable hinge mechanism appears designed to minimize the footprint for storage.
Finish options include Lavender, Platinum Silver, and Black. The Lavender colorway offers a distinct aesthetic choice for users who prefer non-traditional headphone colors. The build materials are described as contributing to a comfortable fit for daily use. The design balances portability with the structural needs of wireless noise cancelling technology. You can carry these headphones easily without significant bulk, fitting them into standard travel scenarios.
Setup and everyday use guide
You set up these headphones using the Sony | Sound Connect app. This tool lets you customize your listening experience before you start using them. You can adjust the 10-band equalizer to match your preferences. The app also provides shortcut settings and tracks your listening history. You can use the Safe Listening tools to manage volume levels for your ears. These features are available if you choose to use the software, but the core functions work without it.
For daily connections, the headphones support multipoint pairing. You can link two Bluetooth devices at the same time. The system switches audio automatically when a call arrives or media starts playing on the other device. This means you do not need to manually disconnect and reconnect when moving between your phone and computer. The connection is wireless, which removes the need for cables during regular use.
Power management is straightforward. The listing states you get up to 27 hours of battery life on a single charge. This duration covers full workdays or long commutes without needing to plug in. If you run low on power, quick charging is available. A three-minute charge provides one hour of playback. This helps you get back to listening quickly if you forget to charge overnight. The headphones are also foldable and come with a carrying case. This design makes them easy to store in a bag for travel. The 253-gram weight ensures they remain comfortable during extended wear, whether you are working or relaxing.
Before You Buy Sony WH-1000XM4C
You should verify that your mobile devices support LDAC if you want to enjoy high-resolution audio wirelessly. This feature transmits more data than standard Bluetooth, but compatibility is not universal. You will need the Sony | Sound Connect app to access the 10-band equalizer and Safe Listening tools. Keep the included carrying case handy, as the foldable design is built for travel. The 27-hour battery life supports all-day use, but you may want a charging cable for quick top-ups. With three color options available, you can choose between Lavender, Black, or Platinum Silver to match your style. This model sits alongside other premium wireless headphones, offering strong noise cancellation and clear call quality. You should check if your work calls require specific microphone enhancements, as this unit uses precise voice pickup technology. Ensure your workflow supports multipoint connection if you switch between devices frequently.
